Biography

JORGE DE LEÓN comes from Santa Cruz in Tenerife, where he also studies before perfecting himself in Italy. He is a multiple winner of several diverse prizes (among others, the Jaume Aragall-Competition). He received his first engagements outside Spain in numerous Zarzuelas as well as operas like Lucia di Lammer­moor, Gianni Schicchi, Il tabarro, Macbeth and Andrea Chénier. 2010 brought important debuts in the Milan Scala in Aida, in Palermo (Carmen, Tosca, Aida), in Naples (Carmen, Aida), at the Teatro Real in Madrid (Tosca), in Valencia (Cavalleria rusticana, Tosca, Aida, Le Cid, Trovato­re), at the Arena di Verona (Carmen, Aida) and at the Liceu in Barcelona (Madama Butterfly, Tosca). The tenor was also hailed as Calaf under the direction of Zubin Mehta in 2012. Recently, he had success with the public in Berlin. Besides Mehta, he has regularly sung with renowned conductors like Lorin Maazel, Daniel Oren, Renato Palumbo and Gianandrea Noseda.
