Biography

Benjamín Morales was born in the Cubuy neighborhood of Canóvanas on August 25, 1926. He married Ana María Morales with whom he fathered two children, Jaime E. and Ana Carmen, from whom he was born five grandchildren. He began his artistic career in 1953. He has worked as an actor, declamator and announcer for more than fifty years. In theater he has performed more than forty works for the festivals sponsored by the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture, such as "La Zorra y las Uvas" (G. Figueiredo), "Crime on the Island of Las Cabras" (H. Betti), "The Heroic of Buenos Aires" (O. Dragún), "The Man in the Skin of a Viper", "Our People" (Thorton Myler), "Dress Naked" (Pirandelo), "The House without a Clock" (René Marqués). He has also participated in works in New York, such as "Welcome Don Goyito" (M. Ballester) and "The Son of Angela Maria" (Jarnés). He has made more than a hundred soap operas and specials, on local channels, among which are some hits such as: "El Hijo de Angela María", "Tomico", "Cristina Bazán", "La Gata", "El Regreso" and "El Cuarto Mandamiento". On the radio he has worked as a narrator and actor for more than fifty years. In the cinema he has participated in films in local and foreign productions, such as "El Hijo de Angela María", in which he is a co-star; in "Dios los Cría", as a co-star and in "El año terrible del 87", protagonist; among which he won an award in "Linda Sara" by Jacobo Morales. Other recognitions and awards he has received are Agueybaná de Oro in 1974 at the "Codazos Festival" as a Character Actor. In 1971, for three consecutive years, he received the Golden Lamb Award at the "Grewardity Festival", as a Theater Actor. In 1970 he was awarded a Golden Agueybaná at the "Codazos Festival" as Actor of the Year.
